Welcome to Afton Glen!

Thanks for coming to live in Afton Glen. We're glad you're here, and we hope that being one of our neighbors is a great experience for you.

Here is a quick tour of some basic things you need to know.

Property Management Company

Our property manager, CSH Community Management, is a private company that operates under the direction and authority of the Afton Glen Homeowners Association. CSH handles many of the administrative tasks for managing the neighborhood, including arranging contracts for trash collection and landscaping services, collecting quarterly association fees, documenting association financial activities and audits, and recording incoming ARB approval request forms.

You can find the contact information for CSH Community Management on our Who to Contact page.

Quarterly Fees

Homeowner association fees are paid quarterly by mailing a check to CSH Community Management. An invoice for the fee is typically mailed out about a month before the beginning of the quarter for which it is due. To avoid a late fee, you must pay the invoice within 30 days after the beginning of the quarter. For example, for the 2nd quarter, beginning April 1, invoices are sent out at the beginning of March. The invoice is due April 1 and must be paid by April 30 to avoid a late fee.

The association fee for 2024 is $175 per quarter. The association Board of Directors may adjust this amount each year for inflation, upcoming special projects, neighborhood maintenance needs, and so on.

Schools

Fairfax County Public Schools are among the most highly rated public school systems in the country. You can find more public school information and useful links, including for private schools and home schooling, on our Schools page.

When schools are in session, school buses make frequent trips through Afton Glen every morning and afternoon. Please use caution driving when children are walking to and from their bus stops, and please stop your car and allow plenty of distance to school buses that are pulled over with their red lights flashing.

Trash

Our current trash hauler, Republic Services, follows this pickup schedule: Residents are encouraged to manage yard waste on their property by mulching, backyard composting, or not generating yard waste at all if possible.

See the Trash page for more details.

ARB

If you plan to make any visible exterior changes to your home or lot, you must submit a request, through the property manager, for prior approval by the neighborhood Architectural Review Board (ARB). This approval is required for all improvements, alterations, repairs, change of paint colors, excavations, changes in grade, tree removal, or other work that in any way alters the exterior of any lot, permanently or temporarily, or the exterior appearance of your property. Once a plan is approved it must be followed, or the ARB must approve a modification.

If you are a renter, it is not sufficient to get permission just from the owner to make any exterior property changes. Submission of an ARB approval request form is required.

If you have a question about whether ARB approval is required, contact the property manager.

Vehicles and Parking

County regulations governing Afton Glen prohibit the parking of watercraft, motor homes, campers, trailers, vehicles with 3 or more axles, vehicles with a GVWR of 12,000 lbs. or more, or vehicles transporting 16 passengers or more (except school buses) on public streets. Vehicles parked in violation are subject to a $75 fine for each violation and may be towed at the owner’s expense.

In addition, recreational vehicles—including but not limited to motor homes, boats, and travel or camping trailers—may not be kept on any Afton Glen lot or in the common areas. This includes homes on the pipestem streets.

All vehicles parked on any area in public view must be maintained in operable condition and must be able to be moved in the event of an emergency.

Who to Call

For most questions regarding neighborhood policies and procedures, you can contact the property manager, who will answer your question or direct you to the appropriate contact. Our Who to Contact page gives contact information for numerous common questions or issues that come up.
